Reconstruction of Anglo-Saxon Royal Hall

These photos are of the reconstruction of an Anglo-Saxon royal hall at Avalon Somerset Marshes Centre. Please bear in mind that it is not at the moment generally open to the public, apart from some guided tours. However, the images make a good background to a reading of Alfred of Wessex, Book One: Inheritance.

The replica is based mostly on archaeological evidence from the nearby dig at the 9th century royal palace at Cheddar, but some of the features are borrowed from archaeology further afield.
